In my experience, the internet has been a very useful tool throughout my education, learning new skills and completing certain tasks. First of all, at almost every level of education using computers and having the ability to navigate through the internet is crucial. Teachers and educators in high school and college use the internet often for teaching purposes; requiring that homework and particular reading assignments be completed through the use of the internet. I have also used the internet as a useful tool to learn how to complete certain skills and tasks. For instance, I basically taught myself the mechanics of the golf swing and how to play the game through YouTube. After watching countless videos of professional golfers, like Tiger Woods and Rory Mcilroy, I have learned the golf swing and have become quite and efficient golfer. As a personal trainer, I refer to the internet quite often reading blogs and watching vlogs for fitness and health purposes. Once again, I use YouTube all the time learning from experts in the fitness industry on proper form with various exercises and certain types of fitness like olympic lifting and powerlifting. For instance, I often refer to Jonny Candito's channel CanitoTrainingHQ when I want to learn the specifics of powerlifting technique and programming. The internet is also a useful tool when searching for the latest news topics as I hardly ever read the actual newspaper.
On the other hand, the internet can be quite distracting when attempting to work on homework or focus on something specific, I attribute this to social media and the easy access to movies and television shows. That is why it is extremely important to have a high level of self control when using the internet. I often fall short this, HA!
With that being said, although the internet can sometimes be a distraction, I think the positives far outweigh the negatives. The internet is a great for learning and education and will only continue to be used more as technology steadily advances.
